Do the sundials actually tell the correct time?
Yes. If the sun is out and you make any necessary adjustments for latitude (and daylight saving time), the dials function as a reliable time piece. However, because there are so many variables to accurate sundialing, we recommend you compare the time on your watch with the time indicated on your sundial and then compensate accordingly when using the sundial by itself. This is the surest way to get the most accurate answer from your dial.

What latitude are the dials calibrated to which don't have latitude adjustments?
They are set to 40 degrees north, the same as New York City.

What are they made of?
They are made of pewter and bronze, silver, silver and gold, and gold. All of them are very durable.

Why is the inner ring on my Aquitaine so difficult to move?
All of our dials are engineered to be a bit tight when you first try to make any of their elements move. This is so that when they loosen up with wear they won't get too loose.

What is the latitude of my area?
Click here for the Latitudes for all major American and Canadian cities. Or look on a map of your area. Generally, the longitude (vertical) and latitude (horizontal) lines are numbered. You can also go to http://www.astro.com and look up almost any city in the world.
